NSF Certification Basics
No matter what someone tells you a water filter will do,
Ask them if it is NSF certified -- NOT just "tested" for the claims they are making--
or if its NSF Certified for anything--
If its not, I would walk the other way!
NSF certification -- as opposed to mere "NSF Tested"--
is the Top- of the - Line, and claims made for that product meet strict & honest standards.
A UL listing for water filters--
it is E.PA. authorized and is the least you need to know to be sure that
claims of health are met.

You don’t need a lot of science to know if a water filter is worth investing in.
Just check with those in the know-- NSF International
--authorized by the E.P.A. & other long-standing and authoritative sources.
Any water filter with substantial claims should be NSF Certified to verify those claims.

NSF Certification is an assurance of quality, performance, and integrity. It assures you that: • The system meets the contaminant reduction claims of the manufacturer. • The system is not adding anything harmful to the water & is structurally sound. • The advertising, literature, and labeling are not misleading.

NSF Certification means the NSF Seal is on the product literature!
Look for the term NSF Certification" or the NSF SEAL
Claims such as “tested according to NSF standards” or “meets NSF testing requirements,” mean nothing unless they are NSF Certified- without it, there's little guarantee of quality. Manufacturer-driven testing, even to NSF’s standards, does not equate to the continual process of inspection and testing that comes with NSF Certification, assuring quality and integrity. NSF does not let the manufacturer affect the testing process, and NSF does follows up with ongoing testing and evaluations. Drink more water.

More About NSF Documentation/ Substantiation
From extensive product testing and material analyses to unannounced plant inspections, NSF undertakes a complete evaluation of every aspect of a product’s development before it can earn certification.
NSF Certification is not a one-time activity – NSF requires regular on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities, as well as periodic retesting of products against the most current national standards. For the consumer, this allows NSF certified products to be purchased and used with confidence.*
